Finland’s coronavirus situation is rapidly deteriorating, and there are also chains of infection among students at universities of applied sciences. This has led to an increase in distance learning and even to the closure of campuses in different parts of Finland.
The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare has updated its recommendation on the use of face masks. The updated recommendation also applies to higher educations institutions during the epidemic’s so-called acceleration phase.
Several coronavirus infections (COVID-19) have been found at Arcada University of Applied Sciences during last week. The people known to have been exposed through close contact have been contacted and quarantined by the City of Helsinki Epidemiologic Operations Unit.
The film Emotional Labour Club (in Swedish: Anonyma kärleksarbetare), created by students at Arcada’s bachelor’s degree programme in film and media, will be shown in September at the Love & Anarchy film festival.
Anne Söderlund, Professor in Physiotherapy at Mälardalen University, will be Arcada's first affiliated professor. With the appointment, Arcada wants to strengthen its Nordic network and research.
Arcada opened the academic year 2020-2021 on Wednesday 2 September. The key role of education to create the society’s path out of the crisis was a theme that was highlighted during the event, where a majority of the guests this year followed online.
Arcada's campus reopened on 3.8, but a large part of its activities has continued and will continue remotely. Arcada's security team, under the leadership of the Rector Mona Forsskåhl, has made a new assessment of the situation.
