Our current key projects.

Through our transdisciplinary efforts we conduct research within human-centric AI and the digital society, addressing challenges in; reliable AI and big data, sustainable health and welfare, business administration in the digital society, transformative culture and media, as well as circular economy, sustainable energy and material solutions.

DITEPRACT: Digital and hybrid teaching and learning

There is a need to develop high quality innovative hybrid and digital teaching strategies to support learning of practical skills in higher education and to support teacher competence in practically oriented distance teaching and learning.

MEDA

Media and Education in the Digital Age (MEDA) is a programme that addresses the challenges, risks and opportunities associated to the use of media in the great variety of social practices that are usually included in the broader definition of educational practices.

Research Programme: AI driven Nordic Health and Welfare

AI driven Nordic Health and Welfare is a research programme where AI solutions are applied to social and health care within the Nordic welfare and social design framework, using a transdisciplinary and user driven approach.

Sinituote and Arcada develop Finland's first reed-based cleaning product

Researchers at Arcada University of Applied Sciences have developed a reed composite that, in collaboration with Sinituote, can be used to produce cleaning products. The cleaning product, a handle holder for cleaning tools, is made from ground reed from the Baltic Sea and plastic. Harvesting and using reeds industrially reduces nutrients in the Baltic Sea and at the same time increases the number of environmentally friendly products on the market.

Continued support for Arcada's research in child-robot interaction

Arcada has been granted 140,000 euros from the foundation Brita Maria Renlunds minne to deepen its research in how social humanoid robots can be of use in early childhood education in a safe and pedagogical way.

How to monitor the transformation towards circular society?

In March 2024, the project partners for Agile Circular Competence Network organised a three-day Spring School aimed at students, companies, and researchers interested in the circular economy. The focus of the third day was on understanding how businesses can measure their transition towards a circular and sustainable economy.
