Arcada admitted a record number of new nursing students

Published: 01.09.2020 / Press release

This year Arcada admitted a record number of new nursing students who start their studies this autumn. Arcada has had a clear focus on broadening and diversifying the selection of nursing programmes, for instance by starting a new bilingual (Swedish and Finnish) nursing programme in cooperation with Diak. Hard work has now paid off, says Maria Forss, Head of the Department of Healthcare at Arcada.

– I think the increased interest in our nursing programmes can be attributed to the fact that we offer more flexibility than many others, such as flexible studies, bilingual studies and the possibility to complete a nursing degree entirely in English. What’s more, the corona pandemic has shed light on the invaluable and important work nurses do for each and every one of us, which has also increased the attraction value of our programmes, Forss says.

This year a total of 114 nursing students was admitted to Arcada. Last year, in 2019, the corresponding number was 61. Overall, this year’s admission has been successful for Arcada – the number of admitted to the programmes held in Swedish is so large that no additional application will be needed. Carl-Johan Rosenbröijer, Vice Rector (Education), is delighted to see that there is an increasing demand for Arcada’s programmes, especially during these demanding times.

– The coronavirus has definitely caused a lot of challenges for us. Despite this, our personnel have done a tremendous, joint effort and succeeded in completing all processes with a fantastic result. A special thank you also goes to all of our students, who have persevered and shown great skills to adapt to the situation and be flexible. We have every reason to be proud of ourselves, says Rosenbröijer.

In autumn 2020 a total of 766 new students will start their studies at Arcada.
