Nordic co-operation in new course at Arcada

During two weeks, students from Arcada University of Applied Sciences and Kristiania University College in Norway gathered for a new course in Integrated Business Planning. The course is a unique collaboration between the higher education institutions with the aim of exchanging cross-border knowledge in a new subject.

Arcada offers Ukrainian refugees preparatory studies for higher education

Along with eight other universities of applied sciences, Arcada offers Ukrainians who have fled the war a free-of-charge preparatory programme for higher education. The programme is made possible through the PrepProg project and with support from the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Can Machine Learning aid in finding key factors to improve the Finnish healthcare system?

Finland is in the process of change in our health care system. The Nordic well-fare system is challenged in Finland, for instance, due to difficulties in attracting nurses, changing demographics in Finland, and a general pressure to reduce costs in the whole public sector. This poses severe challenges for the entire healthcare sector. Can Machine Learning (i.e., the subfield of Artificial Intelligence, which focuses on having a machine imitate intelligent human behavior) be used to understand relationships between different critical properties of our healthcare system? Yes, it can! An excellent example of how this can be done is found in a scientific paper by Hu et al. (2020), where the authors investigated nurses' willingness to report errors in a specific geographical area of the US.

Arcada and Åland UAS launch master's degree programme which responds to the need for more sustainable solutions in the energy industry

Arcada University of Applied Sciences (UAS) and Åland UAS are launching an English-language engineering degree programme at master’s level. The programme focuses on energy automation and sustainability. The one-year master's programme goes by the name Energy Automation Sustainable Engineering (EASE) and has strong connections to the business world.

"Come on kids, let’s play”, says the robot – new Arcada project focuses on child-robot interaction

Already ten years ago Arcada set off its research in AI (artificial intelligence) and pioneered the field with a master's programme in Big Data Analytics. In recent years, Arcada further sharpened its focus in AI research by specifically focusing on ethical issues related to new technologies and on the interaction between humans and robots. So far, dentistry, elderly care, rehabilitation, and preventive health care have benefited from this research – and now the focus is set on child-robot interaction.

Arcada completes health technology centre with donation from Algol

The new learning environment Arcada Health Tech Hub will be completed in the spring of 2023 thanks to a €25,000 donation from the multi-branch company Algol. The centre will be used primarily by students in occupational therapy and physiotherapy, but will also provide a space for professionals, researchers and companies to come together around health technology solutions.
