Silver to Arcada's emergency care students in the Finnish championships in resuscitation

On Friday 13.4 the Suomen Elvytysneuvostos national Finnish champions in resuscitation were held. The competition was arranged during the yearly days for emergency care personnel in Vantaa, with the aim to select which team will represent Finland in the international ECR competitions in Bologna, Italy, in August.

As usual Arcada participated with a team consisting of students. This year Ellen Ahlström and Pia Halavakoski-Pråhl (14FV) together with Oskar Snellman, Freddy Österberg and Mattias Lindberg (16FV) represented Arcadas colours and ended up with the silver medal.

"The team placed second among seven teams that are all working in the field already, which shows just how extremely competent our students are," emergency care teacher Christoffer Ericsson says.

"A lot of practise has gone into this result, and this year the judges paid extra attention to the team's communication and leadership. We are all very proud of our achievement," Freddy Österberg from Team Arcada says.

The winners were the emergency care team from Päijät-Hämeen hyvinvointikuntayhtymän, and they will now represent Finland internationally.

Strong support from companies for a professional doctorate

A working group of 13 universities of applied sciences proposes the introduction of a professional doctorate in Finland, in line with established European practice. A recent survey of business leaders shows that there is clear demand for this new type of degree. Half of the company representatives expressed a very or fairly positive attitude towards professional doctorates. Almost as many consider it possible that their company could offer a position for a professional doctoral candidate in the future.
