The funding of Arcada's new learning and research environments has reached over one million euro

Arcada’s investment in the new learning and research environments is making strong progress in response to the rapid digital development in society. The support from foundations, companies and private persons has been great and thanks to this, the environments have come a long way, some almost to the finish line.

To meet the new demands of an increasingly digitalised society, Arcada needs to be able to offer environments that correspond to the work environments of today and tomorrow. The support for this purpose has been great and a significant milestone has been reached as the campaign Arcada 25 recently exceeded one million euro.

“As Rector, I would like to express our warmest thanks to our nearly one hundred donors who have so far supported Arcada's development. Together with you, we ensure that the Swedish-speaking labour force in Finland has the relevant competencies to develop society and its services in a digital age. Without the donations, it would not be possible for Arcada to create these new environments, with equipment that supports future education, research and the university's ability to collaborate with the surrounding society," says Mona Forsskåhl.

Focused work to reach concrete results

The purposeful planning and development work for the environments is now bearing fruit and we see concrete results. Fundraising manager Mia-Maja Wägar summarises the results so far.

"We have already started operations in our new health technology knowledge centre, opened the doors to an entrepreneurship centre, begun construction of an ambulance simulator and a skills lab for the nursing students, as well as purchased new software and robots to support our technology educations. All these initiatives are crucial to enable our students to practise and simulate during their studies, and above all to learn how to use and develop digital solutions required in their own future profession."

The goal is still ahead

Despite determined work and good results, there is still some way to go before the campaign goal is reached.

“We need to roll up our sleeves to get all environments fully funded. Next on the development list is the completion of a knowledge centre that enables the development and testing of new service and business solutions, the purchase of digital simulation equipment for healthcare education and supplementing the digitally supported machine park that enables research and education on circular production and process development,” Wägar says.

Habilitation as a natural part of a child's everyday life

Six-year-old Lina shows the application with the exercises she did during yesterday's speech therapy for her preschool assistant. A video clip recorded during the therapy captures Lina's communication training, allowing her to repeat the exercises at preschool together with her assistant. This integrated approach aids in further strengthening her communication training.

The robot that taught kindergarteners language and problem solving

Once upon a time, there was a society that rapidly digitally transformed. Digital services and tools became an important part of people's lives - in everyday life, work and school. Artificial intelligence came, not just to visit, but to settle down in the society. Who was this new inhabitant and how ethically reliable was it, people asked themselves?
