From spring 2026, Arcada will offer a new continuing education course that provides an opportunity to deepen knowledge in the care of cancer patients. The course The Cancer Patient’s Care Path has been planned in close collaboration with the Cancer Clinic at HUS, with experts from the clinic participating in the teaching.

The collaboration opens up entirely new opportunities within the course. The Cancer Clinic will open its doors to participants at both the radiotherapy unit and the cytostatic outpatient clinic, explains Marika Blomster, who is responsible for the course at Arcada.

Course content

The course consists of five full-day sessions during the spring and is delivered in a blended format, with both campus days and online components. The first and last sessions are mandatory for all participants.

We wanted to ensure that the course covers a wide range of aspects of cancer care. It is not only about the clinical side, but also about patient interaction and ethics, clarifies Blomster.

The content takes a comprehensive approach to the cancer patient’s care path and addresses, among other things:

  • patient interaction and ethics
  • complementary examinations and treatment methods
  • the different stages of the care process
  • seminars and reflection on ethical issues

The course is offered in Swedish.

Coastal reed harvesting and the utilisation of reed accelerate the blue economy

Reed is a versatile and renewable raw material. Utilising it can help reduce nutrient loading in the Baltic Sea and replace fossil-based raw materials. The Reed to Revenue - BalticReed Fair will be held at Arcada University of Applied Sciences on 29 January, gathering professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs and decision-makers to explore the sustainable utilisation of reed materials and their business potential. The public and media are invited to participate.
