Arcada joins Bluesky

Published: 08.07.2025 / Research

Arcada University of Applied Sciences is now on Bluesky – a new platform for sharing insights from research, innovation, and development.

Arcada has joined the rapidly growing social media platform Bluesky. On Bluesky, we will share insights and glimpses from our research, development and innovation projects – ranging from trustworthy AI, sustainable social and health services, circular economy, and digital business development, to culture that drives change.

Mark Dougherty, Dean, emphasises the importance of this step:

‘I'm excited that Arcada University of Applied Sciences has opened an account on Bluesky! Social media is increasingly important for higher education institutions when communicating their research and this is especially true for universities of applied sciences, because a key part of our mission is to apply research in real world settings.’

Arcada’s involvement in Bluesky is based on our desire to be an active part of a platform that values open source, privacy and digital solutions – issues that lie at the heart of Arcada's research profile. Bluesky offers a new channel for networking and knowledge dissemination and strengthens our ambition to conduct research that makes a difference in society.

’Bluesky has a clear focus on open science and networking within the R&D sector. This openness is key to maintaining relevance in modern society. My hope is that our engagement will increase Arcada's research footprint in the digital ecosystem’, Dougherty concludes.

Sinituote and Arcada develop Finland's first reed-based cleaning product

Researchers at Arcada University of Applied Sciences have developed a reed composite that, in collaboration with Sinituote, can be used to produce cleaning products. The cleaning product, a handle holder for cleaning tools, is made from ground reed from the Baltic Sea and plastic. Harvesting and using reeds industrially reduces nutrients in the Baltic Sea and at the same time increases the number of environmentally friendly products on the market.
