Arcada participates in the campaign I am anti-racist 24.1–6.2

Published: 24.01.2022 / News

The Ministry of Justice and The Non-Discrimination Ombudsman are today launching an anti-racist campaign aimed at young adults. Arcada participates in the campaign by raising these issues in our channels and encouraging students and staff to share their thoughts and experiences of racism.

Ethnic and religious minorities face racism in Finland both as individual racist acts and as discrimination and exclusion in everyday life. Racism is widespread in various areas of society: in education, in working life and in public places.

Arcada is the most international Finnish UAS in relation to its size. This is something we are proud of, but with it also comes a responsibility. We care about diversity and want everyone to experience the study and work environment at Arcada as safe and inclusive.

We work hard to prevent racism from occurring at Arcada, but we want to get even better. During the campaign, you can share your experiences and thoughts. Have you experienced racism at Arcada? How can we actively tackle it? All experiences are valuable and you are completely anonymous.

By collecting information, we want to improve our own understanding of racism. It is important to grasp how extensive this phenomenon is if we are to identify, become aware of, and change things.

We also encourage you to take part in the campaign and work to promote equal opportunities and human rights. On the campaign's website you can read more about what you can do.

Coastal reed harvesting and the utilisation of reed accelerate the blue economy – the first Reed Fair in Helsinki

Reed is a versatile and renewable raw material. Utilising it can help reduce nutrient loading in the Baltic Sea and replace fossil-based raw materials. The Reed to Revenue - BalticReed Fair will be held at Arcada University of Applied Sciences on 29 January, gathering professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs and decision-makers to explore the sustainable utilisation of reed materials and their business potential. The public and media are invited to participate.
