Join us in a course that addresses the social challenges associated to digitalisation and mediatisation and their response in formal education. More precisely, we will look at the affordances of new communication media, their impact on social cohesion, equality and social justice, and to the contribution of education in the effort to preserve freedom and democracy in our societies.
By taking this course, you will learn

- main theories of technology;
- theories of democratic education and pedagogy;

We will be discussing issues such as:
- What is meant by digitalization and mediatization?
- What are the social forces that feeds and those that resist or oppose these important processes?
- What are the social effects of digitalization and mediatization?
- What is the impact of these processes on democracy?
- What can be done in education to prepare future generations to deal with the transformations associated to these processes?
