Eligibility
Before starting your master's application process to Arcada, please ensure that you are an eligible applicant, i.e., you have a suitable educational background and two years of work experience. There are no specific English language eligibility requirements for applying to our master's degree programmes.
Educational background
To be eligible to apply to Energy Automation Sustainable Engineering, you must have a suitable bachelor's degree in engineering.
Two years of work experience
All applicants must, in addition to the requirement listed above, have a minimum of two years (24 months) of relevant work experience gained after the completion of the bachelor's degree in order to meet the eligibility criteria. Relevant work experience could e.g. be experience in development, operation, maintenance, software, or a similar field of engineering
Work experience is only counted after the bachelor's degree has been awarded, and needs to be proven by a work certificate. CVs are not accepted as proof of work experience. Work experience gained before or during your bachelor studies cannot be counted towards the work experience minimum requirement. An exception is only made for applicants who have completed a Finnish vocational college diploma or higher vocational diploma (opisto- tai ammatillisen korkea-asteen tutkinto) before the completion of their higher education degree, as they may also take into account work experience gained before the higher education degree. Work experience can be counted up to 31st December 2023.
Part-time work is converted to full-time work so that 150 hours or 20 full-time working days (a minimum of seven hours per day) are equal to a month. The work experience does not have to be continuous or from the same employer. Practical training or on-the-job learning is not counted as work experience if it forms a part of the degree used for applying.
Student selection method pre-assignment
There are a total of 15 study places in the master's programme Energy Automation Sustainable Engineering at Arcada. Students are selected based on a pre-assignment including a motivation letter and two tasks. The pre-assignment is only graded for those applicants who fulfil the eligibility criteria.
Applicants are given a total score for the pre-assignment and are ranked based on that score. Applicants are admitted in the order of ranking. In case several applicants achieve the same score, but there are not enough study places to admit them all, their admission will be based on drawing lots.
Pre-assignment
The pre-assignment is a mandatory part of the application process, and the idea is to map the basic skills and interests needed for developing abilities to use and creatively explore modern tools for modelling and data analysis, to read and analyze scientific writing within the field, and to effectively communicate results.
The pre-assignment consists of a Motivation letter and two separate tasks: Simulations & Data Analysis
Task 1: The Motivation letter should be maximum of 700 words outlining why you consider yourself a good candidate for the program. See further instructions in the attached pre-assignment document.
Task 2: Simulations You are to verify the result with a figure as per instructions in the attached pre-assignment document.
Task 3: Data Analysis. You are to determine set values as per instructions in the attached pre-assignment document. Data for the task is available in the Heat Control document.
