NordParamedics
Background and goals
NordParamedics is possibly the first network in the world to focus on the promotion of the prehospital paramedic profession. It does this through international collaboration on student and teacher exchanges and quality assurance of each other's degree programs.
The NordParamedics network has a ca. 10-year demonstrated history of educational paramedic-centered activities and collaboration. Also, in 2019, the network lead to the formation
of a 3-year Nordic development project (European Paramedic Curriculum; EPaCur).
Original network members include Oslo Metropolitan University (formerly Oslo and Akershus University College) in Norway, Arcada University of Applied Sciences in Finland, Borås
University in Sweden and University of Akureyri in Iceland. This year (2024), the newest network member addition is University College Absalon in Denmark.
Objectives and benefits
NordParamedics network has a a goal to ensure quality and innovation in paramedics education in each country, while maintaining the unique approach each country has for developing appropriate, innovative and high quality prehospital health services. Students will acquire a broader understanding and experience of pan-Nordic prehospital services, which is also important for Nordic cooperation in emergency situations and teachers will exchange best practices in teaching methods and be in a position to advise and influence national agencies on qualifications and bridges to qualifications for prehospital professionals, within the Nordic countries.
