Student films sold to Yle – now available to watch on Yle Areena
Published: 02.09.2025 / Culture and media
Every year, students on the Film and Media programme produce nearly thirty short films. This spring, Yle purchased seven of these, and they are now available to the public on the site Yle Areena.
The films, created as part of the students' education, are shown in the Uudet tekijät (New Filmmakers) category on Yle Areena. Behind each film is a team of students responsible for everything from production, screenplay and direction to photography and sound design.
Prior to publication, Yle interviewed three of the graduates behind the films: Kristian Nordgren, Cornelia Berg and Henrik Miettinen. The feature was broadcast on 2 September on Yle Nyheter TV-nytt, a broadcast in Swedish, at 7.30 p.m.
In the short film Andra sidan vägen (The Other Side of the Road), Nordgren was responsible for both the script and direction. In Blå timmen (The Blue Hour), Berg was responsible for direction and Miettinen for photography.
From documentaries to period dramas
This is the second time Yle has purchased films produced by students at Arcada. Arcada's own film archive contains a selection of previous student productions (in Swedish). The films are usually between ten and twenty minutes long and represent a wide range of genres – from horror and documentaries to fiction and period dramas.
The following films are now available on Yle Areena:
- AGAPE
- Andra sidan vägen
- Blå timmen
- Dokumentärception
- Käre Albert
- Mer än en miljard
- Värdens bästa pappa
