Do you have a logical mindset and a burning passion for the application of new technologies? The Information Technology programme focuses on programming and data analysis and will give you tools to create AI-driven software for today’s digital world. IT engineers are in high demand, so your skills will be highly sought after.
Ilia Kaishev, Student
The main advantage of the IT programme is the opportunity to try your hand at different areas: front-end, back-end, software development, data analytics, and, of course, the chance to explore different programming languages. You'll easily find something you like. Arcada has several cool perks: a great location, real robots, the fact that we're a small institution (huge plus), and an amazing environment.
Programme
In the Information Technology bachelor’s degree programme at Arcada you will learn software development with the opportunity to specialise in one of two study tracks: Intelligent Robotics or Data Processing and Analytics. By the time you graduate, you will have a solid understanding of the interaction between programming and artificial intelligence. You will know how to design and develop web apps, build different kinds of cloud-based services, and much more. The studies focus on artificial intelligence, the development and application of data analysis, information visualisation, and prognosis.
During the course of your studies, you will be trained in programming, visualising, analysing, and managing the copious datasets used to develop software that can, for instance, make smart decisions and predictions.
From day one, you will build practical skills for the workplace, working with web, mobile, and cloud platforms in software development. You will be working in close collaboration with the industry, and gain valuable work experience during your studies thanks to our internships.
After the second year of your studies, you will choose one of two study tracks:
- Intelligent Robotics
- Data Processing and Analytics
If you choose the Intelligent Robotics specialisation you will learn how to integrate social robots into daily practice, UX/UI design with an emphasis on creating user-centric interfaces, and how to analyse and process sensor data collected from smart and distributed environments.
If you study Data Processing and Analytics, you will learn how to structure, manage and analyse data that supports the development of software for data-driven decision-making, how to store data efficiently with scalability in mind, as well as descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics.

How to apply
Please visit the Application pages for all the information on how to apply.
Cost of studies
Students from countries outside the EU/EEA are required to pay tuition fees. Arcada does not offer scholarships. Instead, the Arcada Award based on non-academic activities is awarded to a few fee-paying students per academic year from the second study year onwards. In addition, Arcada also has an early-bird offer.
Tuition fee-paying international students coming to Finland on a residence permit for studies may work part-time for up to 30 hours per week on average. However, part-time work should be considered supplementary income only, not a primary source of funding for your studies.
Finding a part-time job can be challenging, especially without Finnish or Swedish language skills. Even if you do find employment, the income is unlikely to be sufficient to cover all your tuition and living costs. Therefore, you need to ensure that you have sufficient funds and savings to cover your tuition fees and living expenses throughout your studies before arriving in Finland.
Learn more on our Tuition fees page.
Laptop requirement
All students enrolled in the programme are expected to have a laptop they can use in their studies.
