Arcada's change negotiations concluded

Published: 12.06.2025 / Press release

Arcada University of Applied Sciences has concluded its change negotiations. The negotiations resulted in a renewed organisation adapted to the savings that the higher education sector is undergoing.

The Board of Arcada made the decision to initiate change negotiations to adapt the organisation in the long term to the savings the higher education sector has suffered. At the same time, measures are also needed in the short term.

“The cuts in the higher education sector are hitting smaller institutions faster. This is clearly reflected in our government funding in the coming years and will force us to make significant adjustments," says Rector Mona Forsskåhl.

The negotiations have proceeded in good spirit, even though the demand for savings has been very high, totaling 1.4 million euros.

“The Board made a unanimous decision and gave its full support to the Rector. The cuts are regrettable, but by balancing the finances and focusing the activities, we are at the same time strengthening the opportunities to develop and continue to invest in quality,” says Alexander Bargum, Chairman of the Board.

The negotiations that started on 31.3.2025 have affected all staff. They resulted in the closure of three programmes and a major restructuring of the organisation. The outcome of the Board's decision regarding personnel consequences was that redundancies applied to 18 people, and significant changes in the working conditions applied to 7 people. In addition, all staff will be subject to short-term layoffs. All measures are being implemented in such a way as to minimise the impact on students' daily lives.
