Jane and Aatos Erkko's foundation donates EUR 1,000,000 to Arcada

Jane and Aatos Erkko's foundation made the donation to support the education offered at Arcada. The donation was made within the framework of Arcada's fundraising campaign, Tomorrow's Heroes - Made by Arcada.

The board of Jane and Aatos Erkko’s Foundation consider the donation an investment in research and education.

- The foundation greatly appreciates Arcada's education and sees that the donation in combination with the state's counter-financing supports the university in its important assignment, says Marja Leskinen, Secretary General of Jane and Aatos Erkko's foundation.

The donation is a sign of appreciation for Arcada's activities.

This gift will be managed with care to yield the best possible return in terms of research that develops our education and society at large, says Vice-Rector Henrika Franck, who is responsible for research and innovation at Arcada.

The fundraising campaign Tomorrow's Heroes – Made by Arcada ended 31.12.2018.

Arcada University of Applied Sciences has been audited by the Finnish Olympic Committee and awarded status as Elite Athlete Friendly University. The recognition confirms Arcada’s long term and systematic commitment to supporting elite athletes’ dual careers, enabling the successful combination of higher education studies and elite sports.

Coastal reed harvesting and the utilisation of reed accelerate the blue economy

Reed is a versatile and renewable raw material. Utilising it can help reduce nutrient loading in the Baltic Sea and replace fossil-based raw materials. The Reed to Revenue - BalticReed Fair will be held at Arcada University of Applied Sciences on 29 January, gathering professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs and decision-makers to explore the sustainable utilisation of reed materials and their business potential. The public and media are invited to participate.

Strong support from companies for a professional doctorate

A working group of 13 universities of applied sciences proposes the introduction of a professional doctorate in Finland, in line with established European practice. A recent survey of business leaders shows that there is clear demand for this new type of degree. Half of the company representatives expressed a very or fairly positive attitude towards professional doctorates. Almost as many consider it possible that their company could offer a position for a professional doctoral candidate in the future.
