An increase in applicants to Arcada’s bachelor’s degree programmes in English

Published: 26.01.2017 / Press release

According to preliminary stats Arcada’s bachelor’s degree programmes in English attracted 605 first-hand applicants in total this year, compared to 583 last year. The total amount of applicants to Arcada was 1,818. The application period, which ended on 25 January 2017, saw about 6,000 first-hand applicants in Finland in total.

About half of the applicants to Arcada come from countries outside of the EU/EEA-area, and from which the universities and universities of applied sciences will charge tuition fees starting this year. A bachelor’s degree programme at Arcada costs about 6,000 euros per year. The amount of applicants to Arcada from the US and Russia has decreased slightly, at the same time as the number of applicants from Bangladesh has increased. The applicants to Arcada represent more than 50 nationalities.

“We are pleased with the amount of applicants and happy that Arcada is an attractive university of applied sciences internationally. This fine result suggests that the Finnish educational system continues to have a good reputation and that the degree programmes here continue to attract applicants, even though tuition fees will be introduced starting this fall,” Head of Student Services and HR Annika Stadius says.

Arcada works consistently to further strengthen its international profile and appeal. To do this an effective admissions process is needed.

“During this year we will investigate the possibilities to simplify and streamline the application system to stay on par with international standards,” Stadius says.

Arcada admits 80 new students in total to the English bachelor’s degree programmes in International Business (40 study places), Materials Processing Technology (20) and Nursing (20). International Business had 357 first-hand applicants this year, Nursing 158 and Materials Processing Technology 90.

Besides degree programmes on a bachelor’s level in English, Arcada also offers master’s degree programmes in Media Management, International Business Management, Global Health Care, Mental Health and Real Estate Energy. The application period for the master’s degree programmes takes place between 15.3 and 5.4.2017.
