Are you curious about how destinations are managed and how visitor experiences are shaped? This course offers a deep dive into the role of Destination Management Organisations (DMOs), stakeholder collaboration, and the tools used to create smart, sustainable tourism.

This course is ideal for professionals with some experience in tourism or those who’ve completed an introductory tourism course. Whether you're working in hospitality, regional development, or event planning, this course will elevate your strategic understanding of destination management.

You will gain  in-depth knowledge about destination management practices. We will dive into up-to date topics such as how to develop smart and sustainable destinations, how to impact visitor behaviour and how to cultivate co-operation within destinations. 

The course cover topics as:

  • The role and functions of DMOs
  • Strategic planning for destination development
  • Stakeholder collaboration and co-operation strategies
  • Visitor management and behaviour influence
  • Risk and crisis management in tourism
  • Information management and digital tools
  • Designing smart and sustainable destinations

What You'll Learn

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand the core functions of destination management and how they shape tourism development
  • Recognize the roles of destination management organizations (DMOs) at local, regional, and national levels in the Nordics
  • Describe how DMOs collaborate and coordinate across sectors and regions
  • Identify development needs and opportunities for improving destination management in the Nordic context
  • Evaluate and apply visitor management strategies to enhance sustainability and experience
  • Adopt a strategic, forward-thinking mindset for managing destinations in a changing tourism landscape

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to critically evaluate tourism strategies through the lenses of co-operation, responsibility, and visitor experience.
