The course

This course offers you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and learn new things about applied exercise science. Thanks to the digital learning platform and online video lectures you can perform the course regardless of time and place and you will get access to great course material and a Q&A chat where you can connect whit other sports professionals.

During this course you will

  • Understand how you can perform strength and endurance training and how these can be combined in the best way.
  • Get deeper knowledge on how to plan, execute and apply information gained from aerobic exercise tests.
  • Understand how different environmental conditions impact one’s physical performance.
  • Understand the impact of a sedentary behaviour and metabolic health on the body.
  • Understand the physiological changes of ageing and the impact physical activity has on the aging population.
  • Be able to find and apply scientific information and make motivated arguments for health promoting physical activity, exercise and testing.

For who?

This course is for students and professionals in the area of sports, who are interested in getting deeper knowledge of the physiological responses on the body to different training methods, different environmental conditions, sedentary behaviour as well as aging. The course requires a certain level of understanding of basic exercise physiology

Execution

The course will be online and performed individually with own pace. It consists of; video lectures, articles and quizzes. The course consists of 5 themes and all of them contains a quiz which must be approved. Each theme equals 1 credit and all or some of them can be completed. The course platform will contain a Q&A chat where it will be possible to ask question to the teacher and other participants.

The 5 themes of the course:

  1. Strength- and endurance training
  2. Exercise testing
  3. Exercise in different environmental conditions
  4. Sedentary behaviour and metabolic health
  5. Physical activity, health and aging

The teacher

The course is planned by Jacob Jungell who works as a lecturer in sports at Arcada. Jacob has over 10 years’ experience of exercise testing and coaching and has been working with different individuals and target groups from sedentary people to athletes.
