KONSTFORSK FILM 2026
Background and goals
Konstforsk film is a Nordic project that combines research with artistic practice, specifically in film and media. It will give the partners the opportunity to collect, create and share knowledge on artistic research and its methods, and to synthesise this knowledge into their courses and curriculums, to the benefit of students and staff. The project will arrange an intensive course in Sweden in April 2024 that will act as a practical introduction to artistic research to students and staff from the three partner institutions.
Objectives and benefits
The overall aim is to introduce a pedagogy that sees the production of art as a legitimate mode of academic inquiry. This will bolster student motivation in arts education and remove boundaries between artists and researchers, both inside the institutions and beyond. The project will also add meaning and context to the artworks produced by students as well as the research output. In addition, the project will strengthen links between arts education and industry, by making novel student output accessible to external parties. Additionally, the project will create new contacts and perhaps new collaborations in the Nordic region.
Results
Konstforsk film will give students and staff practical knowledge in the field of artistic research, and the course and its learning outcomes are a part of the results. The course will also share its findings and exercises with industry and academia in the three partner countries.
Societal impact
Society in general, and arts education in particular, display a divide between artists and researchers, between practice and theory. This gap creates a space devoid of dialogue, one which affects both groups in society. Konstforsk film provides a platform that can bridge the gap, In order to come up with deeper art and innovative research, we need knowledge of how artistic research works, and what it can offer students, staff, as well as society and its institutions.
