Our vision for the future

The consortium has been created to respond to the big societal demands and transformations: planetary health, digitalisation, globalisation and an ageing population. To be able to respond, we are addressing today's societal issues such as new health demands, a changing labour market, demography and immigration, increasing social gaps and alienation, quality aging, and new sustainable leadership and entrepreneurial engagement in an uncertain economy.

Behind our vision are European values and ideals, including human dignity, freedom of movement, representative democracy, equality, fairness, well-being, rule of law and human rights. We will promote compassion and tolerance with a conviction that there is equal value to all people. We will also elevate openness and a belief in everyone's right to express their opinion, based on trust in each other and proximity to power and trust in society on different levels. We will be a European university, ready to defend Europe’s freedom of thought and science.

The Nordic social design model – three key dimensions

  • Health promotion, which should be integrated with societal and economic goals aiming to develop equity in a state thus contributing to a productive society
  • User-centred approaches to health and welfare technology, with technical, digital and AI solutions into health promotion.
  • Use of a transdisciplinary and holistic approach to broadly explore the ethical, economical, organisational and societal aspects of health and social well-being in
    different societal contexts.

Sustainable development goals

3: Good health and well-being 4: Quality education 5: Gender equality 10: Reduced inequalities 11: Sustainable cities and communities

Sinituote and Arcada develop Finland's first reed-based cleaning product

Researchers at Arcada University of Applied Sciences have developed a reed composite that, in collaboration with Sinituote, can be used to produce cleaning products. The cleaning product, a handle holder for cleaning tools, is made from ground reed from the Baltic Sea and plastic. Harvesting and using reeds industrially reduces nutrients in the Baltic Sea and at the same time increases the number of environmentally friendly products on the market.
