Arcada initiates change negotiations

Published: 25.03.2025 / Press release

The Board of Arcada University of Applied Sciences Ltd has decided to initiate change negotiations that apply to all employees. The decision was made on financial grounds and based on the need for concrete measures to reduce costs.

The prognosis for Arcada’s financial development show a clear decline in government funding for the coming years.

“Despite positive development in several areas and some cost cuts already made, it is not enough to balance the budget, as costs have increased due to inflation in recent years. Arcada has not managed to grow at the same rate as other universities of applied sciences on the indicators included in the government funding model”, says Rector Mona Forsskåhl.

The change negotiations start on 31 March

The first round of negotiations will be held on 31 March, and the negotiation process will last at least six weeks.

A preliminary estimate is that personnel consequences in the form of redundancies will affect 16 people. In addition, up to 20 people may face significant changes in their duties. The change negotiations apply to all employees.

Update 8 May 2025 at 2:40 p.m.

Following the government's mid-term review and framework decision by late April, significant cuts will be made to the higher education sector over the next three years. As a result, The Board of Arcada University of Applied Sciences Ltd has decided to expand and prolong the ongoing change negotiations by two weeks, as further long-term adjustments are required. The negotiations will therefore be concluded on 26 May.

With the expansion of change negotiations, personnel consequences in the form of redundancies may apply to up to 20 people (previously 16), while 25 people (previously 20) may face significant changes in their tasks and/or essential terms of contract.
