Trustworthy AI in Health and Welfare
Background and goals
The societal implications of AI have been discussed across a range of academic disciplines, in policy and civil reports, as well as in popular science and media. Proposals in support of trusted AI are emerging and it is crucial to strengthen the practices and processes of trustworthy AI. We need to include values, ethics, and privacy as core design considerations in all our AI systems and applications. However, these considerations must be precise and practice-oriented to be valuable to society when developing and introducing AI solutions.
Objectives and benefits
The work integrates with other AI-related projects at Arcada and will tackle the practices and processes connected to trust and ethical assessment of using AI applications in Health and Welfare, based on two core perspectives: AI safety assessment and an ethical welfare technology practice perspective.
Abstract
AI driven Nordic Health and Welfare is a research program where AI solutions are applied to social and health care within the Nordic welfare and social design framework, using a transdisciplinary and user driven approach. We aim to explore ethically sustainable, evidence based, trustworthy and user-friendly AI driven solutions as well as theoretical knowledge in AI as a basis for applying AI in different care contexts. The focus is on two major global societal issues: functional ability for elderly and work ability for persons with mental health problems. The outcomes of the AI supported and smart solutions, applications, models and services will be assessed from both a quality and user perspective as well as an economic and society level perspective.
