"I'm doing research to support the pedagogical development at our university. My specific interest is in the field of epistemic beliefs, how they may vary across degree programmes and depend on IT and media practices".
Tore Ståhl has a M.Ed. from University of Helsinki and is a doctoral candidate at University of Tampere since 2010. Ståhl has been teaching ICT throughout the 1990ies, practising eLearning and developing the prerequisites for eLearning within higher education since 2001. Ståhl was also assigned as Head of IT during 2015-2018. Ståhl is currently assigned as Researcher in Education, with the task to support the development of educational practices at Arcada. His research interest concerns whether ICT and media may have changed the way we view knowledge and learning, so called epistemic beliefs.
Ståhl approaches the problem from two viewpoints:
1) What does the young generation actually look like in terms of ICT and media skills and habits?
2) Is it possible to extend the instruments for measuring epistemic beliefs to express a "digital epistemology"? These two viewpoints merge into the question: Is there an observable pattern between ICT and media practices and preferences and epistemic beliefs?
Since 2019, Ståhl is active in ‘Media and Education in the Postdigital Age’, a cross-disciplinary Arcada research project, aiming at grasping the effects of digitalization in terms of various expressions of a ‘postdigital discontent’. Ståhl works a lot with web-based surveys and accordingly, with quantitative analysis methods.
