The Health Care Worker programme is in Swedish, but the goal is that you as a student, regardless of your own mother tongue, are to be able to interview and care for patients in their own mother tongue; Swedish or Finnish. Your will learn the English terminology within emergency health care through the English readings.

Please note that the following English text is a translation for reference purposes only, and that this degree programme is taught in Swedish. You find more detailed information in Swedish here

Do you like independent work, are interested in health, health promotion and disease prevention work with people of all ages - individually or in groups? Do you have the courage to take responsibility, are you development-oriented and seeking a meaningful job? Then a job as a public health nurse is the job for you.

The goal of the programme is to train professional public health nurses, providing them with knowledge of health promotion and disease preventive work at an individual, group, or social level. The training will give you the skills required to work with counselling for parents, children's counselling in the schools' health care system, occupational medicine and counselling for the elderly in Finland, the Nordic countries or internationally.

The degree also gives you nursing degree qualifications. Therefore, you will also study nursing (for example internal medicine and surgical nursing, nursing of children, psychiatric health and nursing), medicine and natural science (for example anatomy and physiology). You will also learn the basic elements of research and development work as well as leadership. We work to ensure that the programme is realistic, maintaining close collaboration with individuals and organisations from this field, for example in the form of project work carried out individually or in groups.

Life-long learning and the continuous updating and collection of new knowledge is emphasised and students are encouraged to show independence and responsibility whilst also being prepared to work in multi-professional teams.
