FAQ

We have gathered the most frequently asked questions about application and admission on this page. If you cannot find the answer to your question, please contact Arcada's admissions services.

The application process

  • Arcada uses separate applications to it's Bachelor's degree programmes in English and is therefore not a part of the joint application system in Finland. Application is still made through the website studyinfo.fi
  • The separate application to two Bachelor programmes, as well as all Master programmes in English is arranged as continuous applications.
  • All applicants must prove their skills in English, either at the time of application or in the entrance exam (only for Nursing).

Arcada uses a continuous application to the degree programmes in International Business and Mechanical and Sustainability Engineering.

This means that:
1. Arcada has a longer application period
2. Each applicant follows an individual timetable, as the deadline for submitting documents is 7 days counting from the date the application was submitted.
3. Admission is continuous: an applicant can receive an offer as soon as all steps of the application process are passed and complete.
4. Application may close earlier than the given application period, in case all vacant study places have already been filled.

To be eligible to apply you need one of the following educations:

A) Finnish Matriculation examination or/and Finnish upper secondary education, EB, IB or Reifeprüfung examination 

B) Finnish upper secondary vocational education

C) A non-Finnish degree or qualification which gives eligibility for higher education in the degree awarding country.

Please note, that applicants to Arcada’s degree programme in Nursing must have at least B1.2 level skills in either Swedish or Finnish to be eligible to apply.

To apply you need:

A) an education with certificates/diplomas that give you eligibility for higher education

B)  Proof of skills in English. If you apply to our Nursing programme your English language skills will be tested in the entrance exam, in all other cases you must prove your skills when you apply.

C) Accepted SAT score, if you decide on applying through this selection method.

Documents can be uploaded as an attachment to the application.  If the documents are uploaded there, you do not need to send them by post.

To be eligible to apply to Arcada’s Master’s degree programmes, an applicant must have a suitable Bachelor’s degree in the specific field AND a minimum of two years (24 months) of suitable work experience gained after the completion of the Bachelor’s degree.

Tuition fees & Scholarships

Bachelor's degrees:

Scholarships are usually granted for year two studies onwards, and based on student's study achievements during the previous year.

Master's degrees:

Arcada does not grant scholarships to Master’s students.

An admitted student can receive a 4000 €  discount on the tuition fee for the first academic year by bindingly accepting the study place offer of Arcada within 14 days! The early bird offer does not apply to the Nursing programme. Other restrictrions may apply.

Language skills

Yes you do if you apply to International Business and Mechanical and Sustainability Engineering.  Read more about Arcada's language requirements for Bachelor's degrees in English.
 

If you apply to Nursiing, your English language skills will be tested in the entrance exam.

Please note, that applicants to Arcada’s Nursing programme must have at least B1.2 level skills in Swedish or Finnish to be eligible to apply.

Applicant must indeed have skills level B1.2 on the European framework for languages in either Finnish or Swedish when applying to the Nursing programme.

The language skills are required, as the students go on practical training during the first year, and must be able to communication with clients.

Student selection & entrance exams

That depends. If you apply to our Nursing programme, you must take the entrance exam at Arcada to be considered for admission.
If you apply to our programmes in Mechanical and Sustainability Engineering or International Business you can choose to apply through  an entrance exam + language certificate OR based on a SAT test and language requirements. If you apply based a SAT test, you do not need to take part in any entrance exam.

Please note that Arcada does not arrange entrance exams abroad.

Housing, residence & visa applications

Arcada will issue a Certificate of Study to every new student at Arcada as soon as possible, which you can use when submitting your residence permit application. Please read more about visa and residence permit as well as means of support.

Unfortunately, Arcada cannot assist students in obtaining accommodation. However, we have provided a page with information about student accommodation on campus and in Helsinki.
