Mechanical and Production Engineering

Mechanical and Production Engineering is a programme taught in Swedish where students can specialize in the production of plastic products. In terms of educational goals, the programme focuses on professional skills with an emphasis on instilling the abilities required for achieving  innovative solutions. Students are trained for careers as engineers in Finnish and international companies. The student will gain a comprehensive understanding of the plastics industry, from raw materials to final products. Extension studies can be chosen from areas such as business economics, entrepreneurship or business administration.

Professional goals
The graduate will be suitable for different positions as an engineer or supervisor in an industrial company. Some typical job titles include production engineer, design engineer, sales engineer, operator and purchaser.

Professional competences
After graduation the student will be able to:

  • design plastic products in 3D using engineering software
  • select a suitable material for polymer production
  • select feasible manufacturing methods and optimize machines for production of plastic products
  • analyze the costs of materials and machinery in order to estimate the profitability of new products and equipment
  • keep up with new technology in order to develop new products and manufacturing methods.
