The Arcada campus at Arabianranta will double in size
On 13 October 2009, The Real Estate Department approved of the Arcada Foundation’s reservation of four building sites, located near the current campus along Hermannin rantatie at Arabianranta. The new construction permit includes a total of approximately 35 000 m2, an area the same size as the current campus. The Arcada Foundation acts as the driving force in the expansion, but negotiations are taking place with several other parties regarding participation in the construction projects.
The first phase will begin at the end of 2010 with the construction of additional student lodgings and new handicap apartments. The expansion includes two residential houses with a total living space of 6250 m2.
Construction during the second phase will start in 2011 with the expansion of the spaces of Arcada and Practicum Vocational College. This will include, among other things, a new sports centre, which will be used by the sports education, transferred from Solvalla Sports Institute to Arcada as of January 1st, 2008.
Since 2004, Arcada is located in the Arcada House (approximately 16 000 m2) and Practicum Vocational College in the Practicum House (approximately 6 000 m2) at Jan-Magnus Janssonin aukio. The Cor-house, which is the student house of Arcada student union (approximately 300 m2), and two housing corporations with student residences, also make up part of the campus. The student apartments of Majstranden include 177 apartments and the student apartments of Majstrandsgården, Helsinki, 50 apartments and a garage.
