Open studies
Open Studies at Arcada
By taking part in Open Studies- courses students can, among other things, develop their personal and professional skills or change profession. It is possible to some extent to study even alongside daytime work. As an Open Student, it is important to remember that you have the support of the teachers, Study Offices, Study Guide and other students. The tuition takes place both in day and evening time in the form of lectures, exercises, self-studies, literature studies, distance studies as well as examinations. The studies demand time, self-discipline and systematic work. After completion of the course, the student will get an official certificate of his/her study results.
Open Studies cannot lead to a formal degree. If you are interested of degree studies you should apply to the degree program through the National Joint Application System which takes place in January-February every year. If you are admitted to a degree programme courses passed in Open Studies can be recognized as part of the degree. Courses at Open Studies are not classified as full-time studies, which means that Open Studies students are not entitled to the social benefits of a full-time student. Further information on this can be obtained by contacting KELA in your home municipality.
Courses at Arcada´s Open Studies are not intended for Arcada´s own degree students.
