Goals:

- Learn to observe and sense physical sensations and movements in the body;
- understand and talk about sensations and movements in the body;
- discover, stay with and develop emotions in the body;
- give words to emotions and their intentions;
- get in touch with and give language to the preverbal communication;
- get in touch with and give language to the non verbal ,unconscious part of communication.
- Learn about breathing, its importance as a defence and as a vehicle for understanding emotions and sensations in the body; and how to work with breathing patterns.
-Learn to use the non verbal and preverbal discourse in verbal therapy.
-Learn internal and external techniques to promote body process in therapy.


This training is open to:
Psychotherapists, and students in psychotherapy training. For other people with clinical experience (f.e. psychiatric nurses) there will be a personal interview previous to acceptance.

 

Course leader:
The four workshops are held by Dr. Cecilia Waldekranz from Rome, teacher in body oriented psychotherapy. Psychotherapist Clara Wickström will be responsible for the practical questions and the theoretical seminar.

Methods:
The seminars will all be experiential.
The participants will work in couple or small groups where they can observe and experience how it is both to be a patient and a therapist. There will also be didactic demonstrations and open discussions on theory, method and techniques.

1. Basics in method, techniques and theory 5 credits 12 - 14.9.2012
This seminar gives the ability to use some internal techniques and to get some understanding of the theory behind the method. The participants will train in how to recognize and develop body micro practices through various levels of consciousness.

2. Early development and intersubjectivity 5 credits 15 - 17.11.2012
This seminar will focus on how our early relations have an impact on our relational patterns as grown ups. We will elaborate concepts as attachment, inter subjectivity, self and other regulation, and how to use this knowledge in adult treatment.

3. Theoretical seminar 10 credits 18 - 19.1.2013
In this seminar you will have the possibility to discuss authors who  have given a major contribute to early infant research and other researchers and psychotherapists who are important for the understanding of George Downings method.
The diary of your personal experience during the six months of training, together with these studies, will give a more thorough understanding of  body micro practices and how to talk about them.

4. Transference and countertransference 5 credits 10 - 12.2.2013
Transference and Counter transference are two central concepts in this method. We will train in how to discover and use the transference, verbally, physically. A mayor issue in this seminar will be the therapists physical counter transference and how and when bring it into the dialogue.

5. Trauma and PTSD 5 credits 14 - 16.4.2013
How can trauma be present in the body years after. Which are the symptoms and how to deal with them in body oriented psychotherapy. We will work with some body techniques which will make the trauma work profound and safe.
