Distributed Energy Systems

Are you interested in studying to become an energy expert? Energy has once again become one of the most important questions for the future, but this time something exceptional has taken place. Rapidly increasing prices of different fuels and a simultaneously growing political consensus on the threats posed by climate change have created completely new markets for energy engineers.

Arcada now offers a new Swedish degree programme in Distributed Energy Systems, which focuses on energy-related topics. Studies include 30 credits of basic studies, 130 credits of core competence studies, 30 credits of work practice and 20 credits for thesis and methodology. The student must also complete 30 credits in extension studies. Each module alternative consists of a minimum of 15 credits in the same study specialisation.

Educational and professional goals for the degree programme can be viewed in terms of the tasks of future energy engineers. These tasks require:

  • the ability to carry out both quantitative and qualitative analyses of sources of energy losses
  • the ability to perform technical planning of improving energy systems
  • the ability to select the most economic energy system and, in addition, to undertake a life cycle and profitability analysis
  • the ability to calculate the profitability of different alternatives.
